Dr. Keith Scudder established Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital in 1987 at its current location. The property had been in the Scudder family for generations. Placed adjacent to the Cohocton River, the name Rio Vista, a Spanish term meaning “river view,” fit appropriately. In those early days, the hospital was surrounded by a rich area of agriculture and was a mainstay for veterinary care for both large and small animals in the community.
Multiple additions to the main building have been made over the years, including a small area on the left of the building that was developed for a small storefront, a feline-only examination room, and an exit door. A second area on the back of the building was developed as a hospital ward area, and a third, much larger addition, which included a two-story kennel, was added to the back of the building. The storefront was minimized, and a fourth exam room was added in 2018. The kennel was removed in 2023, and the space was renovated into a new surgical suite.
After 44 years of service to the community, Dr. Scudder elected to retire, and Rio Vista was sold to Dr. Stephanie Dodds on August 6th, 2016. Throughout the years, Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital has maintained its tradition of providing the best veterinary care possible. We look forward to continuing this tradition with the help of dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled staff.
