Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital was established in 1987 at its current location by Dr. Keith Scudder. The property used had been in the Scudder family for generations. Placed adjacent to the Cohcoton River, the name Rio Vista, a Spanish term meaning “river view”, fit appropriately. In those early days, the hospital was surrounded by a rich area of agriculture and was a mainstay for veterinary care for large animals in the community.

Three additions to the main building were later added. One being a small area on the left of the building that was developed for a small store front, feline only examination room, and an exit door. A second area on the back of the building developed as hospital ward area. And a third much larger addition, was added to the back of the building and included a two-story kennel. The first floor housed a canine boarding kennel and the second floor a feline boarding area.

After 44 years of services to the community Dr. Scudder elected to retire and Rio Vista was sold to Dr. Stephanie Dodds August 6th, 2016. We wish Dr. Scudder all the best in his retirement. Throughout the years, Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital has maintained its tradition of providing the best veterinary care possible. We look forward to continuing this tradition with the help of dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled staff.

A Letter From Dr. Scudder

Dear Friends or Rio Vista Veterinary Hospital,

This letter is to introduce you to Dr. Stephanie Dodds, who has joined the practice and will be taking over for me, as the time has come to move on to other adventures in life. This decision comes with mixed emotions as I have known so many of you all my life and have dedicated the last 44 years to Rio Vista.

I have searched long and hard to find someone who practices with the same expertise and care you have come to expect from me. I fully support Dr. Dodds in her new capacity as your pet’s veterinarian and hope you will also.

Dr. Dodds also grew up in Steuben county and is very excited to be offering veterinary services close to her home and family. She attended the Atlantic Veterinary college in Prince Edward Island, Canada for her doctors in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Dodds has a vast array of knowledge of all species including companion animals, exotics including potbellied pigs, and farm animals. Dr. Dodds will continue to provide laser therapy, digital imaging, digital thermal evaluations, surgery, electrocardiograms, and laboratory analysis. She will be offering new services in acupuncture, chiropractic, and ultrasound imaging.

I have really enjoyed all of my clients and patients over the years. I will miss all of you. I strongly encourage you to continue to choose Rio Vista for all of your veterinary and boarding needs. Dr. Dodds and the staff are excited to continue to provide your pets with compassionate and quality veterinary care.

We look forward to serving you!
